Welcome to Independence, Missouri! This town is the start of the Oregon Trail. Many people travel to Independence to join a wagon train heading west. Before they can leave, they must stock up on supplies to ensure a successful journey.
Your first order of business is to make a list of your family members. Record this list in your notebook. You may use your real names, or you can choose "pioneer names" from the list below:
Along with a list of your family members, you must include a family portrait. Draw your family portrait to add to your notebook.
2. Now that your family is written down, it's time to buy supplies! Visit this site to find out what you will need to SURVIVE THE LONG JOURNEY Oregon Trail Center
Your wagon can only carry 2000 pounds of supplies. It will be up to your family to decide what items to take with. Use the site above to determine how much food is needed per person and what other supplies are important.
This is the General Store you will "shop" here. Make a list of all of the items you will be taking with you. Record this list and add a final, revised copy to your notebook.
3. You will be keeping a journal during your Oregon Trail adventure! At each stop, you will add an entry. Your first entry will be about beginning your adventure. Each entry needs to be at least 2 paragraphs long.
